What is Shockwave Therapy?

At Rehab Solutions, we offer cutting-edge treatments to help you recover from musculoskeletal injuries and conditions. One of the techniques we specialist in is Shockwave Therapy, also known as Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT), a non-invasive and effective way to alleviate pain and promote healing.

Rehab Solutions offers both Radial Shockwave Therapy and Focused Shockwave Therapy and is the only practice in Fairfield to offer both of these treatments. Approximately 90% of all patients report a substantial improvement after a course of treatment and the majority experience some immediate relief of their symptoms after the first treatment.

f you're looking for a safe and effective way to address your musculoskeletal pain or injury, radial shockwave therapy may be the solution you've been seeking. Contact us today to schedule a consultation and take the first step towards a pain-free life.

Radial Shockwave Therapy Heel and Foot Pain
How Does It Work?

Shockwave Therapy machines generate acoustic pressure energy pulses to treat the area of injury or pain.

The energy produced stimulates the affected tissue and triggers the body's natural healing response

What sets shockwave therapy apart from other treatments is its ability to promote tissue regeneration and increase blood flow to the affected area, resulting in faster healing and reduced pain. The treatment is safe, non-invasive, and typically takes only a few sessions to achieve optimal results.

Focused Shockwave Machine
Radial vs Focused Shockwave

Radial shockwave therapy (RSWT) and focused shockwave therapy (FSWT) are two different types of Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) that use different methods to deliver shockwaves to the body.

Radial shockwave therapy delivers low-energy shockwaves to the affected area in a radial pattern, spreading out from the point of contact with the skin. RSWT is often used to treat conditions such as plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, and achilles tendonitis, among others. RSWT has a relatively low energy intensity and is often used to treat superficial tissues.

Focused shockwave therapy, on the other hand, uses a device that delivers high-energy shockwaves to a specific, targeted deeper area of the body. FSWT is often used to treat conditions such as chronic plantar fasciitis, osteoarthritis and shoulder calcification, among others. FSWT can be used to target deeper tissues and is typically used for more severe or chronic conditions.

While both RSWT and FSWT use shockwaves to promote healing and reduce pain, they differ in terms of the type of device used and the intensity and pattern of shockwaves delivered. The best course of treatment will depend on the individual's specific condition and medical history. Our qualifieid physiotherapists and podiatrists can help determine which type of ESWT is most appropriate.
